Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 pinch fine salt
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • 1 small saucepan

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk the cocoa powder, maple syrup, salt, and 1/4 cup of the milk until smooth.
  2. Whisk in the remaining 1 3/4 cups milk and heat over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes, whisking often, until steaming; do not let it boil.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat, stir in the vanilla extract, and serve hot.

Notes

For the smoothest texture, whisk the cocoa with a little milk first and do not let the drink boil. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days; freezer storage is not recommended. For a dairy-free swap, use unsweetened oat milk.
