Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk

Equipment

  • 1 small saucepan

Method

  1. Whisk the cocoa powder and sugar together in a small saucepan, then whisk in about 2 tablespoons of the milk until smooth.
  2. Gradually whisk in the remaining milk and cook over medium heat, stirring often, for 5 to 7 minutes, until steaming with small bubbles around the edges; do not let it boil.
  3. Pour into mugs and serve hot.

Notes

For the smoothest drink, whisk the cocoa and sugar with a little milk before adding the rest, and do not let the mixture boil. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended. For a dairy-free version, substitute unsweetened oat milk for the whole milk.
