Ingredients

  • 1 cup blanco tequila
  • 0.5 cup orange liqueur such as triple sec
  • 0.5 cup fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 cup cream of coconut
  • 0.5 cup coconut milk unsweetened full-fat, well stirred
  • 1 ice as needed, for shaking and serving

Equipment

  • 1 pitcher
  • 1 24-ounce cocktail shaker
  • 4 rocks glasses

Method

  1. In a pitcher, whisk together the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, cream of coconut, and coconut milk until smooth.
  2. Fill four rocks glasses with ice.
  3. Fill a 24-ounce cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
  4. Add half the margarita mixture to the shaker.
  5. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds, until well chilled.
  6. Strain into two prepared glasses.
  7. Fill the shaker halfway with fresh ice.
  8. Add the remaining mixture and shake vigorously until well chilled.
  9. Strain into the remaining glasses.

Notes

For the smoothest texture, make sure the coconut milk is well stirred before whisking it into the mixture. Refrigerate the margarita mixture in a covered pitcher for up to 2 days; do not freeze. For a nonalcoholic version, replace the tequila and orange liqueur with zero-proof alternatives.
