Ingredients

For the hot chocolate
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz white chocolate finely chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.125 tsp fine salt
For the topping
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 2 tbsp peppermint candies crushed

Equipment

  • 1 3-quart saucepan

Method

Make the hot chocolate
  1. Combine the milk and heavy cream in a 3-quart saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium-low, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes until steaming but not boiling.
  3. Add the white chocolate.
  4. Whisk over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes until completely melted and smooth.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
Finish and serve
  1. Divide the hot chocolate among 4 mugs.
  2. Top each with 1/4 cup mini marshmallows and 1 1/2 teaspoons crushed peppermint candies.

Notes

For the smoothest texture, keep the milk mixture below a boil while melting the chocolate. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container for up to 3 days; reheat gently. Freezing is not recommended because the dairy and chocolate may separate. For a dairy-free swap, use oat milk, dairy-free cream, and dairy-free white chocolate.
