Method
Prep the skillet and batter
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch oven-safe skillet.
- Whisk together the melted butter and sugar until combined, then whisk in the eggs and vanilla until smooth.
- Fold in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined.
Bake with caramel swirls
- Pour the batter into the prepared skillet and smooth the top.
- Drizzle 1/4 cup of the salted caramel sauce over the batter and swirl gently with a knife.
- Bake for 25–28 minutes at 350°F, until the edges are set but the center is still slightly fudgy.
Finish and serve
- Drizzle with the remaining salted caramel sauce before serving warm.
- Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top right before serving.
Notes
For the fudgiest texture, underbake by a minute or two—look for set edges and a soft center that still jiggles slightly. Store covered in the refrigerator up to 3 days; rewarm individual portions in the microwave for 20–30 seconds. Freezing is yes—wrap tightly and freeze up to 2 months, then thaw overnight in the fridge and rewarm. For a gluten-free option, swap in a 1:1 gluten-free all-purpose flour blend.
